Throwback Tuesday: Communications

It's Tuesday! That means Throwback Tuesday for me. Communications is my topic today. Let me start this off with that I loved this lecture. I never really thought the steps to mass communication. I did not think about there being multiple ways to interfere with it. I did not think even that you could be more than one. I personally thing we talked more about mass than the others and I feel like they are important and should be equally talked about.  But I am only a newbie in this magnet and in the world of journalism and communication and I do not know what is important for the exact reasons. I can only say what I infer from around me.

Communications:

  • Individual- This is two people talking to face to face. It has instant feedback. It is like a phone call.
  • Group- It is one person talking to more people. Eye contact and body language are important. It as well has instant feedback.
Remember that there two have the chance to become mass!

  • Mass- The important things about this are there is no immediate feedback and it travels though time and space. It is the the internet in the simplest way possible. There are 5 steps to become mass communication. This blog is mass communication.
  1.  Stimulus- This is the idea.
  2. Encoding- This is getting the idea down into the real world. That could be writing it down on a piece of paper even,
  3. Transmission- This is getting your idea into a way for some to see it.
  4. Decoding-This is getting the information in your reach like on your computer screen ready to read or the book in your hand.
  5. Internalization- This is internalizing the information you just read.
An example of these 5 steps are
  1. I had the idea of this blog.
  2. I created the blog.
  3. I posted a blog entry on to the internet.
  4. You went on your computer and found my blog.
  5. You read my blog entry and you can somewhat remember what I said.
Now there are things that can block you from these steps and that would be filters and impediments. To remember these I think of Mr. Miller asking us "Did you hear about the radio for the deaf?"-That is physical. Then there is mental which is something in your brain will not let you. I think that these are the most important ones of all. If you disagree you can always comment somewhere on my blog and we can talk about it! Lastly remember I will be back for Way Back Wednesday where I plan on talking about the printing press!
